Tami Komai, born in NYC, has resided in Basel since 1972 when she came to study graphic design at the Basel School for Design. Her Japanese heritage has influenced her way of perceiving, as has her „Western“ upbringing. A definite sense of design and order are apparent in the different areas of visual arts where she has been working: with paper in varied ways, her photography, color and her print work. Tami sees her residency in Piodina as a chance to loosen up and as a time to experiment with her relief prints. Accustomed to hand-pulled printing, working with the „Kniehebelpresse“ will be an experience obtaining a different print quality. It may also enable her to manipulate her hand-cut cardboard plates more spontaneously. With no holds barred she wants to see where she lands. www.tamikomai.ch
